NEW BORN

2019

Designed by Bom Noh

New Born is a project focused on transforming the negative perception of burnt wood. Noh has developed a technique using fire as a sculpting tool for wood into unique yet functional objects.

The project resulted in burnt wooden cooking tools to various degrees and shapes, creating new materials and aesthetics - From the way of burning to the traditional treatment of burnt wood. This process highlights a contrast between the useless burnt wood's appearance and its utility in our everyday lives while cooking. This showcases the potential of using fire for transformation and resilience of both the negative perception and the use.

This project aims to redefine material research and challenge conventional aesthetics in design.
